Sat on the bus last week I met an extraordinary man named Brad, Brad runs 100km competitive races and is 64 years old. Not only is he a heartwarming friendly east coast Canadian, he looks much younger then 64. Me and Brad got talking about my food blog and his raw vegan diet, then he starts to tell me about the benefits of beets. Now I’m not new to the concept of beets but adding them to my diet is something I’ve been putting off, I hate beetroot think it tastes like mud. But Brad has convinced me to give it a go .
Once I researched it I found out that Beets are one of the healthiest foods you can juice, who knew ? Through history ancient cultures used it not as food but as medicine, so it must have some heeling properties that have stood the test of time.
So what’s in these potent little beets ?
In the same family as spinach and chard, beets contain vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. They are high in vitamins C and B6, folate . They work as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and detoxification properties. Considering most of us will take extra Vitamins to get what beets provide, surely juicing them is more cost efficient as for a pack of six here it’s only €1.
The benefits of drinking beet juice:
Help Lower Blood Pressure
Beet Juice is Detoxifying
Help prevent Premature Aging
They can Help Protect You from Cancer
Beet Juice Fights Inflammation
Beet Juice Boosts Energy
Beet Juice Can Lower Blood Sugar
Beet Juice Can Improve Sexual Performance
So beet juice can even be known as the worlds natural viagra, from all these positive points (pun intended ) it would be foolish for me not to have some beets. So I’m going to drink one every other day, I have a family history of heart disease and heart attacks., I’d be foolish to not want to introduce something like this in to my diet. Hopefully I’ll see the benefits in the long run and start to like the taste !
